We knew it was only a short matter of time before we would start hearing the heroic yet devastating stories out of this horrific, horrific Vegas massacre. The deadliest shooting in modern U.S. history. I’ve been sick to my stomach all day knowing how many country music fans lost their lives and just how terrible this was.

One of those lives lost, was Tennessee-man, Sonny Melton – while trying to protect his wife, Heather Melton.

The New York Post reported on this story:

“At this point, I’m in complete disbelief and despair. I don’t know what to say. Sonny was the most kind-hearted, loving man I have ever met. He saved my life and lost his,” Melton’s wife, Heather Gulish Melton, said in a statement.”

“He saved my life. He grabbed me and started running when I felt him get shot in the back,” Heather told local Nashville news outlet News 4. “I want everyone to know what a kind-hearted, loving man he was, but at this point, I can barely breathe.”

“Melton, a registered nurse at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital, “checked in” at the event on his Facebook page Friday night — and condolences flooded the post’s comments thread Monday.

Days before, Gulish Melton, an orthopedic surgeon, had posted a photo of the smiling couple wearing matching Eric Church shirts — Route 91’s headline act.”
