The 50th Annual CMA Awards in my opinion were as big as the hype leading up to them….but if you’re not familiar with some of the older country music and artists, you may have lost interest throughout the show.
A few of my favorite moments to see…..
Brothers Osborne winning Vocal Duo of the Year, it was their first CMA win…Orlando has been there with these guys since Day 1 – they won a huge songwriting award this week for song of the year for “Stay A Little Longer.”
I absolutely loved all the moments that brought together newer artists and those that have been around for decades – like the honor of Dolly Parton by Reba, Jennifer Nettles, Kacey Musgraves, Carrie Underwood, Martina McBride – Dolly was presented the Willie Nelson Lifetime Achievement Award by her friend, Lily Tomlin.
Seeing Alan Jackson and George Strait together was so awesome. And Garth and Trisha doing a medley starting with the Johnny and June Carter Cash song, “Jackson.”
Carrie and Brad nailed it when it came to hosting and addressing politics without going overboard.
There were a lot of secret moments too that you may not have caught unless you were really paying attention – like the girls of Runaway June who just played one of our breast cancer survivor celebrations for K92.3 – they sang backup vocals during Carrie Underwood’s performance of “Dirty Laundry.” Carrie had all females rocking on stage with her including up and comer Lindsay Ell on the guitar.
There were honestly so many different special moments, I’d be listing off every one of them to talk about all my favorites. I can’t forget the fact that Taylor Swift showed up to present Garth Brooks with his Entertainer of the Year award, and we saw Taylor at an after party with her good friend Kelsea Ballerini too. They left out a back door with a posse at one point.
