Female Artists Take Center Stage at CMT Artists of the Year Event

By slateronk923

A slew of country’s hottest female artists stole the show on Wednesday night when they performed at the CMT Artists of the Year ceremony in Nashville. The Associated Press reports that the event, held at the Schermerhorn Symphony Center and airing on CMT Thursday night, featured Meghan Trainor, Kelsea Ballerini and Jill Scott joining forces to serenade and celebrate Shania Twain, who is this year’s Artist of a Lifetime recipient, with a cover of her hit “Man, I Feel Like a Woman.” Meanwhile, Twain said in her acceptance speech, “I want to thank CMT for being such a huge supporter all these years. Even in my more rebellious years…you still put me on the air.”

Also honored at the event were Carrie Underwood, Florida Georgia Line, Chris Stapleton, Thomas Rhett, Luke Bryan, and Ballerini herself, who was recognized as Breakout Artist of the Year. While introducing Bryan, Little Big Town poked fun at his recent bicycle accident, and Stapleton’s performance of “Whiskey and You” earned a standing ovation.
